The foreign secretary, Boris Johnson, is to travel to the Caribbean to see the British territories there that have been devastated by Hurricane Irma.
It is understood that Mr Johnson will visit the British Virgin Islands and Anguilla.
The move follows planned visits by President Macron of France and the Dutch king to their hurricane-hit territories, which had put pressure on the British government to follow suit.
Mr Macron is due to travel to St Martin today on an Airbus laden with aid amid growing domestic criticism of Paris’s efforts. King Willem-Alexander flew into the Dutch part of the island yesterday after visiting an aid co-ordination headquarters on the island of Curaçao where injured residents and Dutch tourists had been evacuated.
