Mana Party leader Hone Harawira says he will work with the Maori Party to have Maori seats entrenched in Parliament.

New Zealand First is pushing to have the seats scrapped, and leader Winston Peters said he will hold a binding referendum if his party helps form the next Government.

But Mr Harawira told Rachel Smalley he will team up with his former party to protect the seats.

"When I was with the Maori Party we put up a proposal to have the Maori seats entrenched and we'll certainly be going ahead with that. And while we may not agree on everything that's one thing we do agree on."
