JOHANNESBURG – Prosecutors are expected to use two additional firearm–related charges to show that Oscar Pistorius was reckless and obsessed with guns. A new indictment, including the two new charges, was served on the Paralympic athlete's lawyers on Wednesday. He is due to go on trial in March for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp who he shot dead at his Pretoria home on Valentine's Day. Prosecutors will rely on the evidence of Pistorius's ex–girlfriend Samantha Taylor to give insight into the athlete's apparent obsession with firearms and reckless behaviour. She's expected to testify about numerous incidents including how Pistorius went to gun shops during the Olympics in London last year and during a visit to Las Vegas. Taylor is also due to tell how one night during a storm at his Silverton home, Pistorius left the bedroom with his gun after hearing something hitting the bathroom window. The runner's ex–girlfriend could also give evidence about how he had a run–in with a metro police officer who handled his firearm. Pistorius then shot through the sunroof of a car in anger. Prosecutors will use Taylor's evidence to show Pistorius was jealous, obsessive and suffered from mood swings. Pistorius's alleged obsession with firearms is expected to be a central pillar of the state's case against him. (Edited by Refilwe Pitjeng)
