Plane carrying NBA team mysteriously damaged during flight

PLAYERS from a leading NBA team were shocked and mystified to see the nose of their charter plane appeared to have hit something in the sky.

Oklahoma City Thunder players took to social media to share the shocking photos after disembarking from their charter flight at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, where they found the nose of the Boeing 757-200 was indented and badly scratched.

The team had only travelled 90 minutes on the Delta operated flight, coming in from Minneapolis after a game to land at about 1.30 AM.

New Zealand player Steven Adams tweeted a photo of the indented nose, writing that the players “had a rough flight to say the least”.

He tagged NASA, scientist Bill Nye and astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson in the tweet and asked them “what could have caused this?”

Superstar player Carmelo Anthony posted a shot of the damage on Instagram and asked “what possibly could we have hit in the sky at this time of night?”.

Patrick Patterson saw the lighter side of the unsettling incident, posting a photo to Snapchat and joking in the caption “When [you] accidentally hit Superman while flying”.

The massive dent was likely caused by a bird, the airline said in a statement.

“Delta flight 8935, operating from Minneapolis to Chicago-Midway as a charter flight for the Oklahoma City Thunder, likely encountered a bird while on descent into Chicago,” a spokesperson said.

“The aircraft, a Boeing 757-200, landed safely without incident; customers have since deplaned and maintenance teams are evaluating. Safety is Delta’s top priority.”

A spokesperson for the Thunder confirmed to The Oklahoman all players were safe and unharmed.

Hopefully the players were able to get some sleep after the ordeal; after being defeated by the Minnesota Timberwolves that evening, they were due to go up against the Chicago Bulls the following night.
